What drew you to this opportunity?
Last summer, I partook in the ORIGINS program and fell in love with DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) work in higher education. Considering my wish to pursue DEIB as a career, I decided to return to Hopkins for a new experience!
What are you most excited about during your internship?
I am most excited to network and meet new people. Johns Hopkins is an expansive institution with plenty to offer. My hope is to meet as many people as possible that I can learn from and grow with.
What is your most memorable college experience?
My most memorable college experience would be enjoying a night walk with my dog and then high tailing it back to the house because we came across a coyote!
Where do you want to be in 10 years, and how can this internship help you get there?
In 10 years, I wish to start a federal DEI position. As DEIB becomes more integrated into society, the federal government is constantly playing catch-up. I feel with this internship, I will have a lot to offer federal organizations when it comes to DEI project management and implementation. Working with DAR for a second time will provide me with the networking and growth opportunities needed to reach my goal.
What does philanthropy mean to you?
Philanthropy means utilizing one’s own resources to advocate and empower others. Whether that be through financial donations, personal time, or network sharing, philanthropy is what connects us all together.
What excites you most about spending your summer in Baltimore?
I am most excited about exploring the city and learning more about the culture/environment of Baltimore. There are so many communities with stories to be told!
What is something you are passionate about?
I am extremely passionate about DEIB efforts, especially since they have been under attack in certain places. I believe DEIB benefits everyone and, when done correctly, has the power to change our society for the better.
