Bailey Galindo

Growing up in Bedford, Texas, Bailey Galindo always knew she wanted to live on the East Coast. Bailey made the move five years ago to attend graduate school at the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute where she earned her Master of Music degree.

“I am a classically trained opera singer,” explains Bailey. “I studied voice performance in college at Texas State University and at Peabody. I still take gigs locally when I can.”

After graduating, Bailey worked with the Peabody Children’s Chorus as a coordinator. Currently, she’s the senior development coordinator with University Events. In her role, she manages RSVP lists for large university events, team expenses, and invoices. She also coordinates meetings across departments.

What does your job involve that others might not realize?

My job involves a lot of data maintenance, extensive use of Excel, and website building for event registrations and Commencement.

How did you get into the development and alumni relations field?

In my first year with the Peabody Children’s Chorus, I implemented a new ticketing system for concerts and assisted in the planning and execution of a 10-day tour around Northern Italy. Having that events-oriented experience helped me realize how much I enjoyed the challenge of planning large-scale events. When I saw there was an opening on the University Events team, I had to apply.

What do you like most about your job?

Event planning keeps me on my toes. I must problem-solve on the fly, and it keeps my mind engaged and stimulates my creativity daily. Whether it’s troubleshooting an audio-visual issue or running around Homewood campus to deliver regalia, there is always something to do with a sense of urgency. I’ve always thrived in fast-paced environments, and being part of the event’s team has helped me grow personally and professionally.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am most proud of completing my MBA in organizational management while an employee at JHU. Thanks to the tuition reimbursement benefits, I was able to complete an accelerated online MBA program at Eastern University in 10 months. It has been tremendously helpful to understand the business side of a nonprofit organization.

What is something we may not know about you?

My super-hidden talent is my Britney Spears impression. If you’re ever curious to hear it, you can find me at Mount Washington North.
