What drew you to this opportunity?
After I graduated from the Community College of Baltimore County, I kept in contact with my advisors and program coordinators. I continue to seek guidance and have conversations with faculty. My Upward Bound history teacher and the assistant coordinator, who is now one of the coordinators for the Male Student Success Initiative, directed me to this opportunity. After sharing my resume and fundraising experience with him, he connected me to this opportunity.
What are you most excited about during your internship?
I am excited to gain more hands-on experience and knowledge from those who have strong skills in fundraising, proposal writing, and alumni relations. I want to adapt to this environment and contribute greatly to the team.
What is your most memorable college experience?
My most memorable college experience is joining the Real Estate Organization. After my first semester, the board asked me to join the leadership team. Since I joined, I have had the opportunity to help students get scholarships and memberships through the organization. I also encourage learning and uplift my peers through their Real Estate training and requirements. I have also made a lot of connections and friends in the organization.
Where do you want to be in 10 years, and how can this internship help you get there?
In 10 years, I plan to sharpen my skills and become an expert in fundraising and real estate. I will be fundraising for local and international nonprofit and for-profit companies. I also plan to build my real estate investment portfolio and increase profits for the companies I work with.
What does philanthropy mean to you?
Philanthropy means love of humanity through giving, service, and love. What is the world without giving? People are largely impacted by giving time and money. I have volunteered with nonprofit companies, and I have seen how they have supported target markets, causes, and generated funding. This has encouraged me to continue to give my time and support to those who are often overlooked and in need of support. Love goes a long way, and it encourages others to do the same.
What excites you most about spending your summer in Baltimore?
I am a Baltimore native. I plan to stay in Baltimore and continue to learn the market and get educated on loopholes that can impact individuals and myself as a professional and student. Maryland has supported me through my endeavors, and it has encouraged me to continue to invest in my education and interests. I have met the best people, and I’m learning a lot about the residents of Baltimore’s needs. My experience will help me in this role to connect with individuals while supporting team members and providers.
