Diamond Nivens

Diamond Nivens Elizabeth City State University ’26, Interdisciplinary Studies 

Diamond Nivens is a rising senior at Elizabeth City State University majoring in interdisciplinary studies. This summer, Diamond will support Anna Adelman and Deanna Figiel at the Berman Institute of Bioethics. She is looking forward to gaining hands-on experience and contributing to meaningful projects at Hopkins.

What drew you to this opportunity?  

What drew me to the ORIGINS internship was being able to work with a team that values connection and change.   

What are you most excited about during your internship?  

I’m most excited about the opportunity to learn from passionate professionals and collaborate on projects that will have an impact on the Baltimore community.   

What is your most memorable college experience?  

My most memorable college experience was going to the HBCU Conference with my school’s career development team. It was held in Baltimore and provided great networking opportunities. I made new friends with students from my school.   

Where do you want to be in 10 years, and how can this internship help you get there?  

In 10 years, I see myself living a life that aligns with my purpose and faith. This internship can help me achieve my goal by providing opportunities to explore narratives, connect with diverse communities, and engage in purpose-driven work. I hope to use the skills I gain from this experience to lead with compassion and stay grounded in work that honors my calling and communities I serve.   

What does philanthropy mean to you?  

To me, philanthropy means using my time and resources to uplift others, creating positive change.    

What excites you most about spending your summer in Baltimore?  

Being a Baltimore native, I’m excited to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the city I grew up in.
