What brought you to the ORIGINS program, and what do you hope to take with you when it’s over?
When I first learned about this opportunity, I was drawn to it because of its connection to Johns Hopkins University. But as I researched ORIGINS and institutional advancement more deeply, I quickly realized how valuable this experience could be. By the end of the program, I hope to gain a clear understanding of what the DAR team does on a daily basis, as well as hands-on experience within my project area.

What does philanthropy mean to you, and has anyone in your life shown you what giving back looks like?
Philanthropy comes in many forms: services, resources, opportunities. As a college student, I’m often involved in food drives, fundraisers, and events that support all kinds of people and organizations. One of my favorite experiences was a Halloween event some of my fraternity friends organized with the Greek community on campus. They invited the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, and we spent the evening trick-or-treating with the kids. It was simple, but it felt very heartwarming to experience the happiness and excitement this event created.

If you could fund one thing — at your school, in your community, or worldwide — what would it be and why?
I would fund digital literacy programs in my community. Technology is evolving rapidly, but that pace creates a real divide between generations and across financial and social lines. Many students and older adults have access to technology without knowing how to use it effectively or safely. Programs that teach basic skills and data privacy could help people feel more confident and capable in their daily lives — and more connected to the opportunities technology makes possible.
