Elizabeth Mann

A Carroll County, Maryland, native, Elizabeth Mann has always known about Johns Hopkins University. After earning a bachelor’s in sociology from McDaniel College in 2016, she knew that she wanted to work for a large employer and was interested in higher education. JHU was naturally on her radar. In 2019, she started her first DAR role as a talent specialist with Talent Management and Human Resources (TMHR). Playing a key role in the creation of the ORIGINS Advancement Internship program was one of Elizabeth’s many contributions to TMHR.

In September 2022, Elizabeth transitioned to the Office of Annual Giving (OAG). She oversees OAG’s operations, including customer service, onboarding and team culture, gift processing, project management, and vendor relationships. Elizabeth’s role requires her to understand the entire donor cycle. As a JHAS Superuser, she is excited about the potential that our new CRM brings and how we can now use it to better understand and serve our constituents.

What do you like most about your job?
I love that no day is the same as the one before! Every day there is a new puzzle to solve. I am a part of a team that genuinely enjoys working together and I’m grateful for the collegiality and commitment to excellence and innovation! They are a creative bunch and push me in my thinking and execution — and are always waiting on the other side with kudos, photos of their pets, and a great restaurant recommendation.

How did you get into the development and alumni relations field?
I belonged to a Greek organization during my undergraduate years, and worked closely with the organization’s advisor who was an alumna and donor of the college. She introduced me to philanthropy in a higher education setting. Together, we endowed a scholarship for members of my organization. I am a first-generation college graduate so that work was really close to my heart. After graduation, I joined the Graduates of the Last Decade Committee of the Alumni Board and saw, first-hand, the integral role that alumni play in the overall health of an educational institution. I now sit on the Advisory Board for that same Greek org.

What do you like to do when you are not working?
When I am not in the San Martin Center, you can find me at one of the many plant stores in Baltimore, plotting my next vacation, designing my next home project, trying out one of Baltimore’s newest speakeasys, or walking in Patterson Park. (I may or may not have an ice cream cone from BMORE LICKS in my hand!)

Please share something we don’t know about you.
I LOVE to travel, learn about different people, places, and cultures, and see the natural beauty of the Earth. There is not an activity or destination I wouldn’t be excited to experience — some of my favorites include cliff jumping in Portugal, cenote snorkeling in Mexico, hiking Machu Picchu in Peru, and kayaking in the bioluminescent bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico. I’ve put down roots in a few places outside of Baltimore. I lived in a flat right along the Danube River in Budapest, Hungary, on a nature reserve on the Las Piedras River in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, and in a coastal town just outside of Casablanca, Morocco.
