Erin Yun

Erin Yun fell in love with the Baltimore area during her undergraduate years at Hopkins. She grew up in the beautiful small town of White Stone, VA, where they got their first stoplight when Erin was in middle school. Now she takes that small-town kindness and commitment to community and brings it to her work in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) at Johns Hopkins.

She has worked at JHU for 12 years, including the last three as Director of Volunteer Engagement. In that role, Erin helps colleagues to strengthen volunteer leaders’ connections to Johns Hopkins. Her team provides venues for staff to connect with and learn from each other, finding similarities in people’s work and developing best practices.

What brought you to DAR?

I had worked in another area of the institution for years, and I was looking for an opportunity to learn about other parts of Hopkins while growing professionally.

What accomplishment are you most proud of (work and/or personal)?

I’m proud of bringing together groups of diverse individuals from around the institution to learn from each other, develop new ideas, and make a more effective and collaborative workplace.

What do you like most about your job?

Hands down, it’s the people. Hopkins and DAR are just full of kind, intelligent, and dedicated colleagues, and I have honestly learned something new EVERY day of the decade-plus that I’ve been here.

Have you earned a degree/certification while working at DAR?

Yes. I earned a certificate in business communications from Carey.

What do you like to do when you are not working (hobbies, activities, etc.)?

I love to travel with my family. We’ve done some amazing family vacations over the years, and it’s always fun to go to new places and learn about people whose perspectives and experiences are different from my own.
