Julia Mittereder
Julia Mittereder grew up in Baltimore County. She says that Johns Hopkins has always been in her backyard and part of her life. Julia first joined the institution five years ago and returned to Hopkins earlier this year.
“I previously worked on the Women’s and Children’s Health development team,” she says. “I came back because I wanted a new challenge in my career, and I have always felt a sense of pride working at Johns Hopkins.”
In Julia’s current role, a large part of her focus is on data analysis and finding patterns within the past and current donor base to craft successful messaging.
Julia earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Washington College and her master’s degree in environmental studies from Goucher College. She lives in Middle River with her husband, Patrick, their daughter Mia, and their goldendoodle, Cooper.
How did you get into the development and alumni relations field?
I began my career in development while working for a small, environmentally focused nonprofit on the Eastern Shore. From there, I knew I wanted to work closer to home, and Johns Hopkins was a no-brainer for me.
What do you like most about your job?
I believe the work I am doing truly makes a difference. As a team member of the Center for Gun Violence Solutions, I show up every day with one goal: to create a safer country for me, my daughter, my family, and my peers.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the balance I have found in being a working mother. I love that I can have a career and be the best mother to my little girl.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I absolutely love to cook. I almost went to culinary school years ago, but realized I enjoyed it more as a hobby than a career. My best dish, my husband says, is my chicken parmesan.
Please share something we don’t know about you.
I was a college athlete, playing both softball and volleyball. Working out is still very much a part of my life. I love indoor spin, high-intensity interval training, and weightlifting.
